Last night I finally got to catch dinner with Stephen R, and our friends Isla and Jared from Purple Crush at 101 Diner in Hollywood. Expect some fun new party collabos to pop off this summer involving the 4 of us soon.

(Postdated August 10, 2009) : What’s not to love when your friends throw a not-so-secret interior design party in Venice beach?  Our Tag Sale last weekend was a resounding success, with lots of rabid early shoppers and sunshine a plenty.  Much props to Vanessa De Vargas (Turquoise), Vanessa Kogevinas, and Amy Swift (SMARTY) for keeping the mood light, and of course thx to Dj Stephen R, and Haizee for joining me on the decks overlooking the crowd. The NYTimes even showed up and wrote a succulent expose.

This Saturday I’ll be holding down the turntables at this year’s Designer Tag Event in my favorite LA enclave (Along with Stephen R. and Haizee). Expect free food from vendors, giftbags, a special appearance by my friend Baiyina Hughley from A&E’s “Keyshawn Johnson: Tackling Design” show, and more.  Here’s the scoop from Vanessa De Vargas at turquoise-la.com.

The Designer Tag Sale is an interior designer yard
sale/tag sale organized by interior designer Vanessa De Vargas and
design editor Vanessa Kogevinas. Hosted by entrepreneur Amy Swift (SMARTY.),
the sale will feature over ten top Los Angeles designers selling items
from their personal inventories including small furniture such as
side-tables, lamps, rugs, pillows, art, accessories and more at
incredibly low prices! Nothing will be over $200 and prices will run as
low as $5.

Ahh.. the joys of the sketchy summer warehouse party.  You
know, no air conditioning, lots of standing waves, a blown amp cutting
out on your your rented subs.  Check.

Did I mention we has some great performances from Mochipet, Stephen R, moi (New Berlin) and more?

I’d say my personal favorite of the night was hands down
[a]pendics.shuffle (8 Frozen modules), Oro11, and Sodapop from Anticon.
Plus the t-shirts from Grow Your Own Media were dope.

Overall we had some great art on display, 2 excellent VJs performing including LA’s own Matt Ridenour
on the video projectors. And of course, any place that promotes
painting on the walls is brilliant in my book. Good times for sure.

At our last Packin’ Heat party on June 17th, we hands down had one
of our best nights djing together in the City of Angels. Always one to
suprise, our favorite hangout spot/art gallery bar had an amazing crowd
of regulars, hipster kids and funk/soul lovers  prompted by some
local community radio station love.  Our next party is this
Wednesday July 1, so don’t forget to RSVP below.

As usual, we showed some fun contemporary video art — starting with
some pieces by Stephen R. himself, then segwayed to over to a subtitled
screening of “Ghosts of Cité Soleil”. (If you haven’t seen this — rent
it now : it’s all about Aristide’s last days of power in Haiti, and a
war between two brothers.)

Which reminds me — We’re now officially calling on all video artists
to display their work during the night — the rules are simple.  It
must be contemporary, and it must be socially relevant. Just send us a
quick email and we’ll be happy to add you to the next round of flyers
for that night as well.  Namaste.

Saturday July 25th, Architects and Heroes
presents a night of mind-blowing sound. This is our first jump-off in
LA, and we’re pulling out all of the stops. This one-off, after-hours
event will be at the Silver Echo Gallery,
and will host some of the most amazing musicians and DJs in the game.
There will be a beer & wine bar, video art and other surprises.

Pre-sale tickets will be available soon, and are highly recommended.
